The Plan

The Purpose
To protect and to defend our constitutional mandate as a council and a Judicial Branch of Church Government. To follow our By-Laws and procedures. Article V section A. The General Council of the Church of God in Christ shall consist of all ordained elders who are in good standing with their local churches in the Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and of their Jurisdictional Assemblies, to be organized and following duties. Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and such other officers as it may deem necessary and proper, according to the provisions in the constitution; and the tenure shall run concurrently with that of the administration. It shall consider matters that are referred to it by the, Jurisdictional Assembly, the Bishop, the Jurisdictional Review Committee, any departments of the church.

It shall serve as an Ecclesiastical Council to try, hear and determine cases and all other matters referred to it under the constitution or laws of the church. It shall establish such rules and regulations as it may deem necessary and proper for the conduct of its business not inconsistent with the Constitution or laws of the Church. It shall exercise all other powers and duties vested in it by the Charter, Constitution and By-Laws of the Church.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY APRIL CALL MEETING 2013
RESOLUTION #042013-3: ELECTION OF JURISDICTIONAL PASTORS AND ELDERS COUNCIL OFFICERS
Whereas, the General Assembly has required all Jurisdictions to establish a Pastors and Elders Council. (April 1990 Session).

Whereas, the Jurisdictional Pastors and Elders Council is the trial court before which issues of fact and law are tried.
Whereas, the Officers of the General Council of Pastors and Elders; Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer, are chosen by majority vote of the Council members, (ARTICLE IV, Section III, Para a., Council Handbook)
Whereas, there is a need to establish a fair and equitable Judiciary System in each Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction,
Therefore be it resolved,

  1. The Officers of each Ecclesiastical Jurisdictional Pastors and Elders Council; Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer, shall be elected by a majority vote of the jurisdictional council members present and voting. All Jurisdiction Council members shall be given written notice of the election, forty-five (45) days before said election. and,
  2. Candidates shall meet the qualifications as set forth in the General Council of Pastors and Elders Official Handbook; Article IV, Section II, paragraph 1. and,
  3. All Jurisdictional Council members shall be given written notice of the nominations, thirty (30) days before said nominations. All Council members shall have the right to put forth nominations. and,
  4. The tenure of said officers shall be a term of four (4) years. Each officer may succeed himself if elected to subsequent four (4) year terms.
